To bring the Gospel to the poor

St. Eugene de Mazenod chose as his personal motto the words that Christ used: "He has sent me to bring the Gospel to the poor."

Fr. Slawek OMI with a street person

These words inspired a group of young people of Notre Dame Parish, which 4 years ago began to serve the poor and homeless from Kowloon City and To Kwa Wan. For the past 4 years we have helped many homeless and poor in our area. During this time many young people from different parishes joined us to serve the poor.

Young People from Notre Dame Parish

By our simple service, bringing the food, fruits, clothes…, and spending time with homeless and poor, we really bring the Gospel to them. We realize that the Gospel is not just words - it is a reality lived out in the lives of those who are formed by and follow the Good News of Christ. The Gospel becomes real and active through the hands and hearts of Christ's followers - it is living, breathing, loving, caring, giving, embracing, and sacrificing people. By bringing the Gospel we bring Christ, and with Him we bring ourselves. Now we can say that these homeless and poor became like “family members” to us and they recognize us as their friends and family. We will continue this beautiful service and you can join us every Friday from 9pm to 11pm. God bless you all.
