Oblate Sisters - “Oblatas”

Our story begins in November 1996, when we are at a retreat for young people at the Oblate’s house in Pozuelo, near Madrid. We are between 18 and 21 years old and we belong to youth groups of oblate parishes from different cities from the North and South of Spain..

Some of us have felt in our heart the call to follow Jesus, to stay with him and to share his mission and we thought: “If I were a boy, I would join the Oblate Congregation and become an Oblate Brother”. We talked about this with our spiritual directors but it was not possible as there were no Oblate Sisters with the same spirituality and charisma as Saint Eugene.

So, we started praying to God to give us some sisters to live with this vocation we have felt, and then we just waited for it, but we could not imagine that there were other girls out there with the same desire to be “oblatas”.

Young and joyful Oblate Sisters Community

Thus, on 14th September, 1997, nine of us started living in a spiritual community. The happiest day of our short history was three days before the date set for the vows celebration. It was on that day that we found out that the submission to establish The Oblatas had been approved, with the starting date to be 8th September, 2001.

We have been born from the Oblates, like a flower from a plant, but with our own independence, and this fact has given wings to the Holy Spirit. We share the same spirituality - with a feminine touch – and yet we are from the same family. We collaborate with the Oblates in the measure of our possibilities.

Our Family increases. We are women who, as our patroness Mary Immaculate, wish to be opened to the Holy Spirit and to be totally consecrated to the person and work of the Saviour.
